OPERATIONS – AFRICAN UNION
Since 1997 the Special Forces tasking has changed considerably. Their role has expanded to work much further afield than in its formative years. In addition to serve close protection and support it also has a role to play within the African Union Context. Over the last 15 years there has been a multitude of deployments by the Men of 5SFR and 4SFR. The places of work has included Libya, West Africa, Central Africa, DRC and others.
The majority of the work is as part of the peacekeeping forces but they also fulfill the role of advance party strategic reconnaissance and assistance. This has resulted in the soldiers building up vast experience in Africa. In this the skills that they are trained for get used almost everywhere, be it rapid response, hostage release or other.
We have specifically not publish any content of their recent work here as we respect the need for confidentiality. We support their wish/need to stay out the public eye and to limit their exposure. This has always been the Special Forces way. We make an exception in the matter of Bangui. This is a definitive validation of their skills and is well documented in the public domain. We salute our fellow soldiers that walk proudly and serve proudly. May you uphold the motto “… by day or night, any direction, by land air or sea…”for another 50 years.
