A RHINO NAMED RECCE

A number of our members are involved in anti-poaching and do great work in the protection of these threatened animals. On another project one of our members is responsible for the security of the largest rhino breeding facility in the world. On this site some 1200 rhinos are kept and cared for.

In addition to keeping the rhinos safe the team there also has reasonability for the rhino orphanage. Every now and again the mothers develop complications at birth or reject and offspring that has defects.

One day in 2017 a baby was brought to the orphanage – lost and distressed as his mother was not there anymore. He did not like being kept in the boma and kept banging away at the enclosure walls to the point where he was hurting. It took some specialized attention to calm him down. In this process he crept in to the hearts of his handlers and soon he was given a name. They decided that this eartag had to be inscribed with the name RECCE. Word was sent out to members to raise some funds for milk fomula and the team
Despite his defects the team has got him through the milking stage. It is now almost a year later and he is now a robust and playfull young rhino.
